How do i get my 11 month old to sleep in the crib?

he will only sleep either on the floor with me or on the couch with me. he would do that when he was teething a couple times and now all of a sudden its the only way he sleeps. he starts out in crib, then wakes at like 1AM and then sleeps on me, but any attempt to put back in crib he just wakes right up and starts screaming again. how do i get him to sleep in there? am i supposed to let him cry it out? if so for how long? is there anything else to try?
